Antenna Control Unit
COFDM stands for Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division
Multiplexing. Typically the incoming video signal is first compressed, then
modulated using inverse Fast Fourier transforms and shared between 1704
transmitted carriers. Several levels of error protect are included and
transmission parameters can be optimized for robust use.
COFDM transmission is a multi-carrier digital
transmission technique that thrives in high multi-path environments. The
increased performance of the COFDM system is both in the terms of link
continuity and picture quality because the receiver is able to utilize
reflected and direct signals.
ECS have developed a COFDM Antenna Control Unit (ACU) to
control the Active Switch Sector Base Station
Antenna which interfaces with the VLR
15-16-1D series of COFDM base stations.

As an option this antenna control unit maybe fitted with a GPS receiver
for use in mobile or temporary applications.
The range has the ability to control either 5
or 6 antennas. The 2.3 and 3.5GHz variants control 5 sector antennas whereas
the 4.5GHz version has a 6 sector antenna.
Video Link Rack
Receiver
The Video Link Rack Receiver is designed for
use as a base station or mobile receiver. It may be used with the
switched sector antenna system or with omnidirectional antennas.
The 3.5 and 4.5GHz versions have filtering and frequency down conversion
to the first intermediate frequency near the antenna. The receiver will
automatically select the matching code rate, guard interval and demodulation
scheme for any given input signal.

Decryption can be provided within the system if required and is fully
automatic. Two video channels can be received and decoded simultaneously.
The LCD display provides an indication of signal strength, channel selected
and encryption code authorised.
Outputs are provided in RGB, Y/C, NTSC and MPEG. An ASI output is also
available on request.
Base Station
Receiving Equipment
The ECS COFDM Digital Base Station
Receiver is designed to use as a base system or mobile receiver. It can be
used with either the ECS switched sector antenna system or omni directional
antennas. Not only does it automatically select matching code rate, guard
interval and demodulation scheme for any given input signal, the Base
Station Receiver is also available with fully automatic decryption upon
request.
Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (COFDM) is a state of
the art transmission technique utilizing multiple carriers to provide high
quality real time video images in environments and situations where
conventional video links would fail through multipath interference.

The system consists of:
The COFDM Antenna Control Unit
The COFDM Active Switch Sector Antenna
The COFDM Digital Base Station Receiver with
dual channel video.
These three parts make up a complete COFDM base station able to receive
air to ground video transmission from 45-50n miles @200ft. GPS information
is utilized to control the base station switch sectored antenna.
