Snoopy (Non-line of Sight Link) COFDM stands for Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing. Typically the incoming video signal is first compressed, then modulated using inverse Fast Fourier transforms and shared between 1704 transmitted carriers. Several levels of error protect are included and transmission parameters can be optimized for robust use. COFDM transmission is a multi-carrier digital transmission technique that thrives in high multi-path environments. The increased performance of the COFDM system is both in the terms of link continuity and picture quality because the receiver is able to utilize reflected and direct signals. Snoopy is a non-line of sight link designed for covert military use and deployment in both rural and urban areas. Snoopy uses an ECS proprietary COFDM modulation technology with a 128 carriers and a payload of 2Mbps. The forward error correction codes have been specifically developed for this application and together with the payload gives an on air date rate of 4Mbps.
ECS uses an accredited AES encryption technique to uniquely provide unrivalled security. Furthermore, Snoopy is designed to have a low probability of detection. Ranges of 4-5kms NLOS are typical. Snoopy is small, lightweight, energy efficient and available on VHF, UHF and microwave frequencies to order. ECS have designed Snoopy such that the picture quality and frame rate can be remotely controlled and the quality is better than VHS quality video at full frame rate.
