Description

Gnome 2M is designed to achieve the best performance possible when recording in real-life noisy environments. It records conversations at extremely high quality with or without compression. Equipped with two extremely sensitive internal microphones or an external microphone harness, Gnome 2M provides rich functionality with lots of settings available via an easy-to-use keypad.

Gnome 2M has an 8-digit PIN-code with audio data encryption. Rugged metal case insures durability of the unit as well as protects it against RF jamming.

Gnome 2M is the improved modification of Gnome 2 voice recorder. It can record at 48 kHz frequency rate, It combines all the Gnome 2M functionality with two important unique features:

Noise cancellation and speech-enhancement during playback. Broadband and composite filters are available and in most cases they are capable of greatly reducing common noises (street, car, room etc.) and improving speech intelligibility.

Playback speed adjustment enables you to hasten or slow down playback without affecting voice pitch or its other parameters. Increasing the speed is especially useful while listening to long records. The main feature is the 24-bit input.  There are no other covert recorders on the market that have 24 bit input.  Most are 12 bit.  What is the advantage of 24-bit over 12-bit?  A 12-bit system has a much more limited ability to hear and record low level sounds.  Put a 12-bit recorder and the Gnome side by side and make speech recordings at greater and greater distances from the recorders and you will find much of the speech was never recorded on the 12-bit recorder.  Put a 12-bit recorder in a high noise environment like a dance club and most of the recording will be distorted.  The 24-bit recorder is able to deal with this problem.

Other features:

• Uses commonly available Compact Flash, which is currently available up to 4 GB.  No special formatting required.  Use separate cards for different projects or cases.  Have a Gnome installed in a car, just switch out the Compact Flash instead of the whole recorder at the end of the day.  Plays back on a standard Compact Flash reader that is common on most computers today. (5 in 1 Memory Readers)

• Does not need a computer to set up or operate. All functions programmed directly from the recorder.  Most digital recorders require a computer for set-up, downloading but not the Gnome.  LCD display can be turned off during recording so the recorder looks dead. Simple slide switch Record ON button.  No special tricks or confusing controls.
• Stereo recorder.  Most digital recorders are monaural.  The Gnome has two built in microphones and can also use external microphones for concealments and body worn applications. Compatible with Knowles microphone elements if you want to build your own wiring harness for vehicles, rooms, people, concealment devices.
• Several sampling rates to choose from.  Most digital recorders have one sample rate and several compression ratios.  The Gnome has several sampling rates with the choice of adding compression.  The sample rates are 32K, 16K, 10K, and 8K.  Movie quality recording, this recorder could be used for making videos and movies due to the high quality of the audio.  At 32K sample rate you have up to 16K of audio bandwidth.
• Choice of Mono or Stereo operation. If stereo is not a requirement, you can switch to mono mode and double your record time.

• Standard record memory is 512 MB, which will give you a range of record time from 2 hours 20 minutes to 18 hours 40 minutes depending on sample rate and compression.  Increasing the size of the memory to 1024 MB will double the times. Increasing the size of the memory to 2048 MB will 4x the times.
• Timer recording for up to 5 sessions is also available for recording at specific times.
• File encryption can be set to prevent unauthorized use of the recorder or files on the compact flash.
• RFI protected.  Designed to withstand the close proximity to a radio frequency device that is transmitting such as a cell phone or audio / video transmitter.  Many digital recorders will not work when close to a cell phone due to the radio waves getting into the recorder circuits and causing the audio to become scrambled.

• Data can be encrypted with 256 bit code to prevent unauthorized use or access, thus if the unit is lost or picked up by unauthorized persons, the audio cannot be accessed.  In addition it provides a means to authenticate that the recording is an original recording that has not been manipulated.
• Eight digits PIN code can be applied to control RECORD, PLAY, STOP, DELETE, and SETTINGS. Using the PIN code prevents unauthorized use or manipulated use of the recorder by users such as informants.
• When in TIMER mode, user cannot bypass recording.  This feature is ideal for delayed recording and prevents the manipulation by the user such as an informant.
• Built in TIME CLOCK for time stamp of recordings

• Recorder can be used in LOOP MODE, which provides for continuous recording until turned off.  Ideal for events that may be only a few minutes long but may require waiting for hours before the event occurs.
• Choice of manual record levels or automatic gain record levels.  For high noise environments or changing conditions that vary from a quite meeting to a concert or construction site, the automatic gain system adjusts for the best record conditions.
• Studio quality audio is ideal for Voice Identification and Noise Cancellation processing. Most all analog and some digital recordings have inherent problems associated with wow and flutter (tape changing speed), gradual speed changes, distortion, compression systems that prevent post processing of audio for use in noise cancellation and voice identification.
• Audio record activation based on audio level threshold.  In order to avoid hours of no activity, using the threshold setting condenses the recording to relevant audio. Should not be used for evidence recordings.
